Trip to Brussels, Belgium

Belgium is one of the neighbor countries of France.
Brussels , capital city of Belgium, is a small city, which is very suitable for a weekend gateway.
It's my 1st trip with my classmates to another country after coming to France.
A trip with full of joy and laugh. I love it so much.
Let's see the photos I snapped in my Brussels trip.

1. Town Hall, Grand Place-Grote-Markt
The hostel we stayed is very near to Grand Place.
It's most significant place in Brussels.
The most well-known flower carpet is in this big landmark, but only take place every 2 years of Summer ( Next will be on 2014)
This historic building currently is shops and some administration offices.

2. Manneken Pis
The world famous little boy...
I was surprised that it was much more smaller than I expected...
It a must go spot in Brussels.

and this kind little boy souvenir is everywhere in Brussels.
The photo below is little boy wine bottle opener

Beside Maneken Pis, you must try the waffle.
It serve hot, not so crispy, but the taste is awesome.
Belgium waffle is totally different taste compare with the waffle I ate in either Malaysia or France before.

So, the price of waffle depend on the topping and sauce.
For the most simple, waffle with sugar, it's just 1euro.

3.  Jeanneke Pis
The sister of Manneken Pis , Jeanneke Pis is not so well known,
But, it's still one of tourist spot.
There is a legend of Jeanneke Pis, saying that your wish be granted if you throw a coin into the bowl fountain.

4. European Union Parliament
Brussels is considered the capital of European Union. Most EU office located here.
(Haha, that mean my scholarship come from here~~)
The landmark is huge, display the history timeline of EU, in large poster hanging around.

The euro currency that used in most European countries.

Parlamentarium- A museum displayed the history and development of European Union and record some notable moment happen in Europe.
Informative but boring if you are not interested

5. Atomium
Outstanding and creative to use idea of atom and bond ( Chemist know it well~~) into building structure.
I didn't go in, but took a lot of photo with this icon.
From website, you can climb up to the sphere and have a great view of Antwerp, another city of Belgium.

6. St.Michael and St. Gudula Cathedral
Old church is quite common and everywhere in Europe.
Every church have it's uniqueness and beauty.
It's not so famous like Notre Dame in Paris; but it's worth to look around and snap some photo.

7. Comic strip painting
It's one of attraction in Brussels, the comic drawing can be seen in all around the city of Brussels.
It can be in the side wall of the shop, the upper part of building....etc...
Tin tin is famous in Brussels.

This is some summary of my Brussels trip.
It's too cold when I went for this trip.( It's snowing, and I have a lot of snowballs fight with my friends)
The road name is really complicate, I don't know how to pronounce it correctly.
You can easily to get a good, free Brussels map in many places, like hostel, metro station and tourist counters.
Highly recommend using the guide and map below. I found it very useful and it's the best among many maps I had.

That all~~~ :)

Arc de Triomphe @ Paris, France

Arc de Triompheone of the most famous and historic monuments in Paris.
It's honours those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and the Napoleonic Wars, with the names of all French victories and generals inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces.
Nowadays, it's become one of significant tourist spot in Paris, and the most famous shopping street, Avenue Champs-Élysées is just in front of it.

Let's see the day view of the Arc

and the Night View of Arc. No much different ( of course, it's same monument!!), but different feel~~

You can climb up to Arc de Triomphe, and see very nice Paris city view from the top. It's free entrance if you are student under 26 years old.
There are total 284 staircases. It's quite tiring and blur as the staircase is in circle.

Finally I reached the top of Arc!!!

I climbed to the top of Arc twice in different season.
The photo below was taken from the Arc's top. From the photo, you will know the reason why summer is the favorite season for travel.
Oh, half of the Eiffel tower was disappeared~~~

You can see clearer sculptures of the monument through this~~~

List of French victories is engraved under the great arches on the inside façades of the monument.

Some ceremony ( I don't know what is it!?) happened in the summer under the Arc.

Last but not least, me with the Arc de Triomphe......

That all....
More Paris attractions to go~~~

How time flies!! I had been away from Malaysia about 5 months ago.
Definetly I miss my home so much!!!
I miss the hot weather in Malaysia , I miss the food in Malaysia
and of course, I miss my dearest friends and family in Malaysia.
This post gonna tell you how much I miss the food that can find in Malaysia only.
and I as a food lover, I miss them so much. ( and now I really learn how to cook all these food, so that I will not miss it so much when I'm living abroad..haha :) )
Here I simply list out 9 foods that I miss...

==========================================================

1. Tau Fu Hua ( Soya Bean Pudding)
It's a famous Chinese dessert that made by yellow beans.
I still remember my mum always bought this from night market nearby my house every Tuesday.
I love it so much ~~~
The perfect Tau Fu Hua should be taste not so sweet, and it's texture is soft.

2. Bat Ku Teh
It a Chinese soup with a very unique strong taste. It usually consists of meaty pork ribs simmered in a complex broth of herbs and spices (including star anisecinnamonclovesdang guifennel seeds and garlic) and it's cook for hours to have good taste.
Seriously, I tried very hard to find these dish in Chinatown Paris, but unfortunately, I can't find any.

3. Wonton Noodle
It is a very famous Cantonese noodle dish, usually served with leafy vegetables, meat and wonton dumpling.
Although I can easily find frozen wonton dumpling in supermarket at Paris, I really miss dumpling that made by my mum, with rich meat ingredients wrapped in thin skin.
Oh~~ I miss it so much~~~

4. Chicken Rice
There are many types of Chicken rice in Malaysia, what I miss the most is the Chinese Hainanese style chicken rice.
I miss the soft texture of chicken, and the fragrance rice.
I don't know why but I can't find a good chicken rice in Paris.
I miss Malacca chicken rice ball. ( You must try if you come to Malaysia!)

5. Nasi Lemak
Ok, I admit the food I mentioned above is mainly Chinese food, which sometime still can find similar( but really different, weird taste) in Chinatown.
But , this food for sure, you can't even find in Chinatown.
Because, It is really a typical Malaysian Food.
It is a fragrant rice dish cooked in coconut milk and "pandan" leaf, usually eat with chicken, cucumber slices, small fried anchovies (ikan bilis), roasted peanuts, hard boiled egg, and hot spicy chili sauce (sambal)
I hope one day in future there is a Malaysia town in Europe....Haha~~~

6. Pan Mee
It a very famous dish in Kuala Lumpur/Selangor area,
I addicted to it when I came to KL for study in past 3 years.
There are many ways to serve Pan Mee, but I like the dry chili Pan Mee.
The dough is made from flour (sometimes egg is added for more flavor).
usually eat with minced pork, vegetable, mushroom etc....

7. Laksa
In Europe, it's really hard to find a food that is spicy and hot. Even the chili sauce selling here is mostly sweet, not spicy.
Laksa is a popular spicy noodle soup from the Peranakan culture, which is a merger of Chinese and Malay elements.
There are many variations of Laksa. Personally I like Curry Laksa.

8. Lou Shu Feng (Silver needle noodle)
There are many variation of name to this dish when I was searched in Wikipedia.
It is a chinese noodle with white semi-transparent colour. There are many way to cook it, and I like the Claypot Lou Shu Feng the most.
It can easily find in Chinese Hawker stall in Malaysia.

9. Egg Tart
It consists of an outer pastry crust that is filled with egg custard and baked.
It's a very famous Asian pastry.
I really miss the egg tart that made by my mum, which the taste is rich of egg fragrance smell and crispy crust.
I always search for a good egg tart, even when I'm in Malaysia.
It's very hard to find a good egg tart with reasonable price.
Choose a homemade egg tart would be better choice.

I think I might create Part 2 since after finish wrote this post,

Night Market, which more well known as "Pasar Malam" is a must go place if you are in Taiwan.
Almost every part of Taiwan have the night market.
I had listed 10 night market food that I tried during the trip.

Here come to 1st night market I went-- Yizhong street night market (一中夜市) , which located in Taichuang~~~

1. Small sausage wrapped in large sausage ~ (大腸包小腸)
This is a very famous street food in Taiwan, which can be found in almost all night market.
The large sausage is usually made of glutinous rice with grill small sausage in the center...
It's about 30NTD per piece.

2. Stinky tohu
It's another must-try taiwan famous food~~
personally I don't like the taste, I had tried stinky tohu in Malaysia once and I banned it forever~~
But, the taste is totally different for stinky tohu in Taiwan.
I tried 1 piece in Taiwan, I would say the stinky smell is not so strong compare to Malaysia stinky tohu.

3. Aloe vera ice lemon tea
This drink become famous since a very well known Taiwanese drama filmed for it.
I really like the taste, not so sweet, and it's really suitable to drink it in summer hot weather.

Scenery of Yizhong street night market~~~

People just sitting down and eat in the park nearby after buying the food from night market

In Taichung, the most famous night market would be this- Fengchia night market, which is huge and you can really find many cheap reasonable clothes and shoes here...( In my opinion, here would be the best place to buy clothes compare to Wu Fen Pu Commercial zone五分埔), which is another fashion heaven in Taiwan.

4. Moon prawn pancake

A pancake which made of prawn, eat with some sweet sauce given,
Taste not that bad, crispy but with less prawn taste

5. Sweet cone pizza
This is not really a famous night market food, but it seem unique
We seldom see a pizza in cone shape, therefore we tried it~~
There are many variation of ingredients to choose...cheese is one of the most important ingredient in this food.

Overall, It's good to have a try, I would recommend you can share with some friends.  The crust outside is not as nice as I expected~~

6. Fried Squid
There are many fried food in Taiwan night market,
So, squid is one of it~~~
with many variation of sauce and spices( such as thai sour chili, wasabi, korean chili, cheese mayonaise, etc~~)

It's look so attractive and very fragrance smell, taste is ok~~

In KaoShuing (southern of Taiwan), the most famous night market would be LiuHe night market~~

This night market is not so big compare to Taichung night market..

7. Papaya milk

Price is about 50NTD per cup ( not so cheap~)

One of the famous street food in Taiwan~~
Good taste~~

Scenery of Liuhe market~~ there are some very interesting broad, to attract the tourist and customer, with up to 90% discount of branded bag. Did you believe it?? ( Well, no for me~~)

In Taipei, the most famous night market - Shilin night market (台北士林夜市)

I didn't spend much time in this night market...
but I found something interesting~~~

9. Small bun wrapped in large bun (大饼包小饼)

It's somehow with same concept of small sausage wrapped in large sausage
The salted cripsy bun with some chicken foss wrapped in a layer of soft pancake skin

It's look like a popiah, I really like the taste

10. Deep-fried chicken breasts

A must try street food when you come to Taiwan,
It's so famous, even in Malaysia you can find this food with labelled from Taiwan
But the most origin taste of this fried chicken you should try at Shilin night market.

The portion is very big, highly recommend to share with your friends,

and eat immediately when it is hot~~ very delicious and crispy

That all conclude the night market food in Taiwan .

There are much more delicious food in night market, but mostly is fried food,
so it's important to drink more water after eating many fried hot food, and don't overeat~~
